THECLA BODEWES SHIPYARDS SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHES 7.280DWT VESSEL 'VERTOM LISA’ FOR VERTOM GROUP
25/07/2024
Thecla Bodewes Shipyards is proud to announce the successful christening and launch of the MV VERTOM LISA, a cutting-edge 7,280 dwt vessel designed for diesel-electric propulsion. This significant event took place at the Thecla Bodewes shipyard in Kampen, marking another key milestone in the long-standing partnership between Thecla Bodewes Shipyards and the Vertom Group, a leader in maritime logistics solutions.
The MV VERTOM LISA is the latest addition to Vertom Group's fleet, specifically crafted to meet the rising demands for reduced greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime industry. The vessel is the sixth in a planned series of ten LABRAX vessels, each equipped with a state-of-the-art propulsion system. This system comprises four generator sets aimed at minimizing energy consumption, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing overall maintenance costs.
"With all the demands placed on ships today, the Labrax series is already a step ahead of what the future will bring. At the same time, the incredible fuel savings make it a clean ship. This not only saves us a lot in terms of emissions, but also in terms of operational costs. A newbuilding is always fun to sail on, but the Labrax 7280 is even more special than conventional vessels," says newbuilding Captain Roderick Kamphuizen from the Vertom Group. "It is new, it is modern, it is high-tech, it is a Dutch product that we are proud of, and in addition the ships sail very stable and fast in relation to the power used. It is a real positive story on all fronts".
"The successful launch of the MV VERTOM LISA underscores our commitment to innovation and excellence in shipbuilding," says Thecla Bodewes, CEO of Thecla Bodewes Shipyards. "As a shipyard, we are proud to continue our collaboration with Vertom Group, delivering vessels that not only meet but even exceed industry standards for sustainability and efficiency."
"With the launch of our 6th vessel in the Labrax series, we are proud to continue setting a benchmark for future-proof and sustainable maritime shipping. Building on these strengths, the latest vessel embodies our commitment to innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility,” says Arjan de Jong, CEO of Vertom Group. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our maritime partners for their collaboration and expertise. Together, we are navigating towards a greener future."
The christening and launch ceremony were attended by representatives and employees of both the Vertom Group and Thecla Bodewes Shipyards, along with family, friends, suppliers, subcontractors and relations involved in the shipping and maritime industry who contributed to this project.
Upon her completion in early October, the MV VERTOM LISA will join her five sister vessels (Vertom Patty, Vertom Cyta, Vertom Tomma, Vertom Anne Marit and Vertom Anette) in the Vertom Group fleet, further strengthening the group’s capabilities in providing innovative and sustainable maritime logistics solutions.
Future proof LABRAX series
The VERTOM LISA is the sixth vessel in the LABRAX series, a series of twelve vessels and represents a significant addition to Vertom Group’s fleet, renowned for its commitment to quality, reliability and innovation in the shipping sector. The box-shaped cargo hold offers great advantages over comparable vessels in the same deadweight range, and with the diesel-electric propulsion system, the MV VERTOM LISA has competitive fuel consumption figures and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
With increasing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including stricter targets set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), all vessels in the Labrax series are already compliant and ready for future alternative fuels and power sources.
Sustainable features
As an example of the energy transition within Thecla Bodewes Shipyards and the Vertom Group, MV Vertom Lisa, like her sister vessels, has a CFD optimised hull shape and an efficient fixed pitch propeller shaft line system to maximise the benefits of the diesel-electric propulsion system. Combined with a number of energy saving technologies, the vessel reduces NOx emissions to an absolute minimum. The Labrax series marks an important milestone in the development of sustainable shipping solutions and is therefore fully in line with the ambitions of both the Vertom Group and Thecla Bodewes Shipyards to make a significant contribution to the transition to zero emission shipping.
Competitive transport solutions
With a length of 118.60m, a width of 14.30m and a full-box cargo hold of total 329,700 cuft, the Labrax 7,280 dwt series offers competitive transport solutions. The diesel-electric propulsion system on board, in combination with the advanced power-management system, minimizes energy losses, reduces overall fuel consumption and reduces CO2 emissions. This desired result has already been proven in the performance of the other LABRAX newbuild vessels. In addition, the installed propulsion power on board is considerably lower compared to ships of equal cargo capacity and with conventional propulsion.
